Central Union Mission Food Drive
August 4

Every week the Mission provides nearly 300 people with non-perishable foods through their Family Ministry Center. IBC holds a food drive in conjunction with our communion services in support of this important ministry. While many of the clients are not homeless, they do suffer financial hardships. The program serves senior citizens, single family households as well as the Hispanic community. The Mission recognizes that hunger does not always stem from homelessness or unemployment, it affects the working impoverished as well. Operation Backpack 2019

Join the IBC family as we help support children in need in our community at Immanuel's Hope Ministry, local schools, and the family ministry of Central Union Mission. Please donate backpacks filled with school supplies at the Backlick and Braddock Road Entrances. The deadline is Sunday, August 11. The supply list, and backpack tags, are available on our website and the Welcome Center. Visit ibc.church/backpack.

Immanuel’s Hope Ministry

Each week, Immanuel’s Hope Ministry reaches local families in need with the gospel, prayer, and free, practical assistance. Donate clothing, shoes, sheets, blankets, and towels in a bin in the Atrium or bring them to the long, white garage on Wednesdays, noon-4pm. Larger items such as small appliances no larger than a microwave please bring directly to the long garage. Tax receipts are available.

You can volunteer! Help receive and sort donations on Wednesdays, 12-4pm, or sort donations on Monday afternoons. Help in the Wednesday evening outreach. We need English- and Spanish-speaking small group leaders to visit and pray with our visitors. We need Spanish-speakers for database entry and workers with a smile to pack the bags of visitors after they finish shopping.

Fresh Start Kits

You and your team can encourage our homeless neighbors today - and all you need is a shoebox! We invite you to decorate a shoebox or Ziploc bag and fill it with small necessities that can help keep a homeless man or woman clean and safe. Remember that being homeless often means having no access to supplies we take for granted. You can fill your kit with these suggested items and more: comb/brush, hand towel, travel sizes of shampoo, soap, lotion, deodorant tissue pack, baby wipes, hand sanitizer, toothbrush, toothpaste, adhesive bandages, antibiotic ointment, and some warm socks. The items may be brought on Sundays to the Mission donation basket in the Atrium. For more information, visit missiondc.org/shoebox.

Bible Verse Writing Rally for Central Union Mission

Organize a verse writing rally with your family or any group to encourage those less fortunate. Bible verse cards are a great encouragement to the low-income neighbors who receive food from the Mission and will be placed in the bags of groceries they receive. All you have to do:

  1. Write out Bible verses of encouragement on 3x5 index cards, one verse per card.  Do not list any personal information.
  2. Send the stack of cards to Central Union Mission, P.O. Box 96763, Washington, DC 20090
