Summer Scripture Memorization
“We’ll memorize Scripture because it is no empty word for us but our very life.”
Glenna Marshall
Too often we view Scripture memorization as something that would be nice to do if we had the time. But this quote from Glenna Marshall in her book, Memorizing Scripture, reminds us that it is essential to our spiritual life and maturity. Our goal as believers is to grow in our love for Christ and to be more like Him. We can only do this by the power of the Holy Spirit working through God’s Word. It is God’s Word that transforms our hearts and minds.

Colossians 3:16 instructs us:

Let the Word of Christ dwell in you richly, teaching and admonishing one another in all wisdom, singing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, with thankfulness in your hearts to God.

We want to have a life shaped by the Word and one of the ways that happens it through storing it in our hearts and letting it dwell in us richly.

To this end, Women’s Ministry is encouraging the women of Immanuel to memorize Scripture in July. What better place to start Scripture memorization than in the Psalms. Join us as we memorize Psalm 1 in the month of July. We will have cards that outline the memorization plan which will officially start the week of July 5. You can pick up the cards at the flyer stand next to the Welcome desk in June.

We hope you will join us as we seek to let the Word of Christ dwell in us richly and live a Word-shaped life.

Psalm 1
1 Blessed is the man
who walks not in the counsel of the wicked,
nor stands in the way of sinners,
nor sits in the seat of scoffers;
2 but his delight is in the law of the Lord,
and on his law he meditates day and night.
3 He is like a tree
planted by streams of water
that yields its fruit in its season,
and its leaf does not wither.
In all that he does, he prospers.
4 The wicked are not so,
but are like chaff that the wind drives away.
5 Therefore the wicked will not stand in the judgment,
nor sinners in the congregation of the righteous;
6 for the Lord knows the way of the righteous,
but the way of the wicked will perish.

Sweet Sunday
-Women's Fall Kickoff Event
Embracing Everyday Love for Jesus
August 30, 2026 | 6:30pm
As we wind down from summer, we want to kick-off a new ministry year with a time of worship, prayer, and the Word. Please join us as we hear from Hanna Seymour, author of Everyday Spiritual Habits. Her book is about cultivating “small, simple acts [that] can grow your faith in big ways.” You are sure to be encouraged in embracing everyday love for the Lord!
Our own all-girl worship band, Gloria Dei, will be back and will lead us in a time of worship together. We’ll also spend time praying over all of the teachers and students that are heading back to school.
In addition, you will be able to learn about the many opportunities for Bible study at Immanuel and sign up for a group if you choose. Registration for our women’s Bible studies will open at Sweet Sunday this year. There will also be time to connect with friends and make new friends and of course to indulge in a sweet ice cream sundae bar and enjoy other delicious treats (including dairy and gluten free options.)
There is no charge or cost to you, but we would love to know you are coming. Please let us know here. (Sorry, no childcare will be provided during Sweet Sunday.)
We can also use willing hands to help make the evening happen. If you would like to volunteer, please let us know here.

Join us at Sweet Sunday August 30th as we reflect on God’s great love for us as seen in our salvation through Christ!
And He said to him, “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and will all your mind. This is the great and first commandment. And a second is like it: You shall love your neighbor as yourself.”
Matthew 22:37-39
